Unique greatness
We
should never tell ourselves, openly or indirectly, "I want to be
great, what vocation can I find for myself in order to become great?"
On the contrary, we should tell ourselves, 'There must certainly be
something I can do better than anyone else, since each one of us
is a
special mode of manifestation of the divine power which, in its
essence, is one in all. However humble and modest it may be, this is
precisely the thing to which I should devote myself, and in order to
find it, I shall observe and analyse my tastes, tendencies and
preferences, and I shall do it without pride or excessive humility,
whatever others may think I shall do it just as I breathe, just as the
flower smells sweet, quite simply, quite naturally, because I cannot do
otherwise."
One of my cherished goals for putting up this website is to collect and make
available online some of those old (pre-1975) concerts by stalwarts which are so
precious and rare to obtain. They are all locked up in the private music
collections of a few individuals, who are not willing to share them with others
for fear of loss.
That's precisely where the Internet helps, isn't it, to house music in an
indestructible but widely shareable form?
Hence I request rasikas to come forward and share with me copies of those
rare concerts so I can put them online to give everybody an oppurtunity to share
the sangItAmR^itaM ! You'll be duly recognized on the website for your
contribution. And rest assured that it will not be used for profit.
For starters, I am looking for the following:
pre-1970 concerts by M. Balamurali Krishna
pre-1975 concerts by Vinjamuri Varadaraja Iyengar, M.D.Ramanathan, GNB,
Oleti, Dwaram Venkataswamy Naidu (violin), or their gurus.
You can send your collection to me in several ways:
You can upload music files to my
upload website in mp3 or
realaudio format, at your convenience.
(The site is password-protected; send me email to get the password).
You are also welcome to send me copies of your cassettes/CDs by postal
mail. Please email me and I'll give you my postal address in the U.S. or India.
I'll put them on my website for everybody's benefit soon after receiving them.
