AlOchanaamR^itaM

AlochanaamR^itaM The Danger of Morality The man who remains bound by personal or social ideas of duty, necessary as they are for the ignorant to tame their clamorous desires, will be indeed a "good" man, but he will never attain to the fulfilment of this yoga [taught in the Gita]. He will only replace the desire for one kind of fruit by the desire for another kind; he will strive, even more passionately perhaps, for these higher results and be more bitterly grieved by not attaining them.

There is no passion so terrible as the passion of the altruist, no egoism so hard to shake as the fixed egoism of virtue, precisely because it is justified in its own eyes and justified in the sight of men and cannot see the necessity for yielding to a higher law. Even if there is no grieving over the results, there will be the labour and strife of the rajasic kartA¢, struggling nd fighting, getting eager and getting exhausted, not trigunA¢tI®ta, always under bondage to the gunas.

It was under the domination of these ideas of personal virtue and social duty that Arjuna refused to fight.

MahAbhAratam-SAntiparvam in telugu (audio)

by Sri Samavedam Shanmukha Sarma, 2004 (a set of 11 VCDs). The unique aspect of this pravachanam is that Sarma-gAru not only narrates from the original mahabharata, but also explains how the issues discussed therein are highly relevant to the modern times. Some highlights:

- A manager/executive should behave like a pregnant woman. The pregnant woman does everything with great care for the good of the child she is bearing, even if that means sacrificing her own pleasures. (volume 5)

- The four varnas/castes are inherent to any society, Indian or foreign. Because, they correspond to the four predominant pre-occupations of society: intellectual, executive, wealth distribution and production. Obliterating castes in their essence is as futile as asking everybody to think alike. But what is needed is to transform their meaning to the modern lingo. (volume 6)

- mAtR^idevo bhava, pitR^idevo bhava become really applicable after one enters the married life because that is the time when one becomes self-sufficient and no longer feels the need for parents from a material perspective. (volume 7)

This pravachanam is available as a set of 11 Video CDs. I am making online a small portion of the pravachanam just to give you a feel for the content. Purchase them from Rushipeetham Audios

My intention in putting this online is to advertise the existence of this great pravachanam to a wider audience for their benefit.
